The First Church of the Brethren of Peoria is a fellowship of people who believe in
Jesus and seek to live out that belief in practical ways every day. We certainly
don't claim to be perfect, but we are striving to Discover, Connect, Grow and
Live into the life, grace and service that comes from knowing Jesus.
Following Jesus is "Another Way of Living", which is to love God with all our heart,
soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourself. We do this through
worship, study, service to our community, and through fellowship with one another.
We are a group that likes to have fun. Whether its a church picnic with water
balloons, or our many other activities, we like to express the joy that Jesus has put
in our hearts.
The congregation was founded in 1948 and since that founding the congregation
has grown from the "Little Chapel with a Big Heart" into the current community that
still shares that big heart.
The congregation is part of the Church of the Brethren, a denomination started in
1708 in Schwarzenau Germany. The Church of the Brethren is noted for being a
denomination that lives out its faith simply and practically. That simple yet practical
faith is what started organizations like Heifer International.
